Ferret owners
must clipped the
nails of their ferrets; this is to avoid their ability to walk and get snagged in their beddings that can cause accident which then can result to serious injury. Avoid declawing your ferret; the procedure can remove the part of your ferret’s toes that is very painful.

You can use a sharp cat or human nail clippers, ferretone and a styptic powder or a bar soap. First, put a few drops of ferretone on your ferrets’ stomach.

This is a way of distracting him while you are clipping. Cut above the pink-red vein or quick. Be aware of not cutting the quick because this can cause bleeding. Check your ferrets’ nails weekly.

After clipping, you need to brush your pet ferret everyday to prevent hair balls during shedding.
Hair balls can cause blockage in the gastrointestinal tract. Ferrets that accidentally ingest hair will develop a dry cough and should be given one inch ribbon of laxatone. Use cat brush or ferret brush with soft bristles. Brush in an even stroke for ferret care. Brushing will keep their hair coat soft and shiny.

Brushing the teeth of your ferrets can be done at least once a month. It can also get tartar and tooth decay and worst is it can lead to kidney disease. Use soft finger, gauze or toothbrush and toothpaste made especially for ferrets, cats or kittens.
